The Great Easter Basket Hunt

Peter Cottontail
Here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hopping’ down the bunny trail,
Hippity, hoppity,
Easter’s on its way.

Did Peter Cottontail / the Easter Bunny come to your house this year? I saw so many families and tweets and status updates today as families gathered and celebrated the day. Many times I saw references to a hunt for eggs!

Easter came with a bit of a hunt for us too this year. As a surprise to Alex I decided to add a new twist to our traditional Easter Basket exchange by waking him with a fun little note!

“Well Hello Alex, I hopped through early this morning and since you were still sleeping I hid your basket and left you clues in these eggs. Good Luck!”

Easter Basket Hunt

(Camouflage eggs were just the ticket for a hidden egg Easter basket hunt!)

Easter Egg Hunt

The clues continued and were hidden from his sock drawer to our toasting goblets from the wedding and even managed to find themselves out ON TOP of his Jeep. Some were a tad harder to find, perhaps I should have stuck the clue to the one in the coffee grinds a bit closer to the beginning.

Searching for Easter Eggs

After many moments in thought and few moments of just pure laughter Alex was finally able to find and open his Easter Basket. From chocolate rabbits to jelly beans the basket was decorated and filled, plus it even included a toy!

(I mean, really, doesn’t ever great egg seeker deserve a toy to reward all that hard work?)

Finding the Easter Basket, Opening the Easter Basket

Only kicker…um Peter Cottontail forgot to leave some batteries. So for now, Alex’s toy is our latest table decor.

Did you get an Easter basket? What was in it?

My Husband’s Logic

Alex and I have been together now for a little over three years. We’ve been married a year and half of those three years and living together for 2 and half of those three years. (Yes we moved fast. But not compared to my parents!)

So in all that time I’ve learned some of my husband’s “quirks” if you like, such as his desire to always stir butter. And cream cheese. And yogurt. And pretty much any slightly soft food item the minute after WE FIRST OPEN IT.

Or his incessant need to straighten things on shelves. From books to pictures, and even little figurines things have to be aligned just so for him to be content. (Yet his laundry ends up in a  pile beside our bed. Every time.)

So you would think in ALL of this time that our conversation last night would have been completely unnecessary, but sometimes I have to look at him and go “Really?” It’s almost like I’m an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, but not the musical because that would be a tad odd.

On the phone:

Me:  “Do you want me to meet you at Home Depot or should we go pick up the trailer together?”

Alex: “Why do I need a trailer? I’ll just put the boards in my Jeep.”

Me: “But they are twelve feet long? You’re Jeep is only five feet long?”

Alex: “And?”

Then later at the store after we manage to find ten feet long posts that we now needed to fix our porch(along with the fasteners, the new mailbox, and the sink parts that I was NOT expecting to buy) we head out to the Jeeps. Where Alex loads the boards into his Jeep. And then they immediately proceed to over-balance and tip out.

Me: “So how are you going to secure these so you don’t cause a traffic accident?”

Alex: “With this!”

And with that he pulls out STRING! Really?!

Securing items in a Jeep

I should know better, I married the man after all. I know that sometimes his logic and my logic go in opposite directions. I also know that he considers directions, asking for help, and oh I don’t know….CALLING A PRO to be heresy. What I didn’t realize was how far he was willing to take this. So I left him in the parking lot with his string and boards while I headed home. I didn’t want to be behind him while he drove home.

If you were, I apologize now.

Do you ever have those “REALLY?” moments throughout your day?

A Man and His Hammer

Home Depot is the best store, but at the same time I’m pretty dang sure that store is its own dimension. You walk through those front doors and what you’ve actually done is walked through a portal that takes you to a land where time moves much more slowly than the real world.

At least if you’re a home-owner that is!
As we continue to work on our house we have found that we have priorities on what all we want to get done. Sometimes those priorities make sense (such as our roof) and sometimes those priorities make very little sense. Today I came home to a priority that makes very little sense.
We have a very ragged yard. The previous owner rented the house out and while there are remnants that someone cared and TRIED to do good things. The yard is um, unattractive. So we’ve discussed how we’d like to remove our sway-back fence and redo the front shrubs. Little stuff, but stuff that makes it more our home on the outside as well as the inside. Ya know?
Well today I came home to this.
Removing our Fence, Fence Removal
And this:
Replacing the front porch
Evidently we’re moving forward with the bush removal, fence removal, and front porch replacement a tad quicker than I realized. Which I love….and Home Depot will love more! The great news is the house looks wonderfully different already and like we actually CARE about it. The bad news is there is a time crunch here because Alex’s birthday is next month and we’re talking about having a house party at some point.
Are there any “projects” around your house, apartment, dorm, what may have you that you’d like to do or at the very least come home to see being worked on?

My Day in Photos

You ever have one of those day’s when you look at the clock and just WISH for bedtime? How do you get over those days? Today is one of those days.

This morning I woke up early. I was super proud of myself, then I hit snooze because I had an extra five minutes to sleep. Guess what….that button wasn’t for snooze. It was for OFF. (Please tell me I’m not the only one who has done this.) So my normally empty drive looked more like this.
